Day 63: Hangzhou (杭州)

Starting off with some bad news
Charlotte got an email today that her grandmother, who has been very sick for a couple months, passed away.  We will be cutting out trip to China about 5 days short to go to Taiwan for the funeral on the 11th.  Our flight back to LA will still be on the 15th, so the last 5 days we will spend in Taiwan

Change in plans
Spent almost all day trying to rearrange our schedule and book tickets so we can continue our trip and still see everything we planned on seeing.

Trip around the lake (西湖)
In the late afternoon we took an electric car around the lake so Charlotte could see all the sights she wanted to see before our 7:30 train out of town.  She went to see a rebuilt pagoda (雷峰塔) and almost bought a brick from the original pagoda that dated back to 700 AD, however she refrained.  I just waited outside as I have seen enough pagodas for a lifetime.  We then walked around some more and saw a bunch of the boats on the lake pushing off for shore and one of the guys rowing a boat yelled "Typhoon is coming!! Run for your lives!!" then he took off rowing like crazy with the others.  It was a little windy, but definitely not a typhoon.

Train ride
We ended up having to get a cab to the train station an hour outside of town since it was Hangzhou SOUTH station, not Hangzhou station we were leaving from.  The station was in a totally different town and we barely made our train.  This train would be our longest at 19 hours, luckily we had soft sleepers.
