Day 32: Lanzhou (蘭州)

During the night the Chinese food finally got to me and spent most of the night being sick.  When we woke up I was seriously considering paying to fly to the next city, but decided to risk it and sent Charlotte out to get our bus tickets for that evening which would be in a sleeper bus for 12 hours.  I decided to add half a day to the hotel so I could relax most of the day, decided not to eat anything at all and prepare for the bathroom-less journey to our next city.

We did make it out to see the Yellow River for a couple hours and take some pictures of people swimming in the river and look at a traditional sheep skin boat.  Charlotte then went and got some beef noodle soup while I stayed at the hotel until it was time for our bus.  Luckily the public sleeper bus was a lot cleaner than the private one we took before.  In addition this driving would be through the desert, rather than mountain roads, so it wasn't too bad.  The beds however were still only 5'8" so it wasn't too comfortable for me and we only made 1 stop at 11pm when the driver had to eat dinner and everyone had to get off the bus for half an hour.  There was a bathroom to use, well not really a bathroom, but a dark field you could wonder to.  Now I have to give the Chinese credit again, especially the women, who without and hesitation in the middle of no where at almost midnight just walked out into the darkness of the field to go to the bathroom with only their friends or boyfriends waiting at the closest light probably 50 meters away.  I can't imagine very many Americans willing to do this.
