It was nice waking up in a friends apartment knowing we would not have to move for all week. It gave us some much needed relaxation. We decided to avoid any tourist sites this first day and just try and get some errands done and get our electronics fixed (Charlotte's camera died due to desert sand and our computer died). After finding places that could do repairs we dropped off Charlottes camera at Canon and looked for Dell repair shop, but found that they could do repairs but it wouldn't be covered by the warranty once we returned to the US, so we decided not to have them fix it.
Peking University (北大)
We ended up meeting a student at Peking University that had been in contact with my father about his work. We went to dinner with him and his girlfriend, then they gave us a tour of Peking University.

Tiananmen Square (天安門)
To get some night pictures we stopped by Tiananmen square and the pedestrian shopping street next to it, Wangfujing (王府井), before heading home.

Chairman Mao and it says "Long live the peoples republic of China" and "Long live worlds people join together" (Charlotte says it makes about as much sense in Chinese as the translation does)
